You need to help your brain focus and not go overboard. For most of us, our brain goes on an over thinking mode and thus increases our levels of anxiety. It often prevents you from doing things in a smart way. Our minds often plays fool with us and making up our mind may be the single most difficult thing to do.

In fact, experts have shown how chronic worriers focus on uncertainties and feel anxious about the future. They have no control over their lives hence. Training the brain to not over think and recall an image from a book that you have read in the last 15 minutes is a good way to start. When you try looking at an image for the past 5 minutes, you prevent your brain from forgetting and enable it to process quickly.

You should also train your brain to be comfortable with uncertainty. Over thinkers often train their brains to focus on uncertainties as they are busy trying to solve these knots. For an over thinker, it is almost like a two year old that is trying to seek answers. Some of these questions can be answered but a lot of over thinkers may tend on dwell on the uncertainties rather than focusing on the solutions.

Seeking answers to questions may not be that easy. It is therefore necessary that you seek the answer to the question you are over thinking or just plain accept the fact that despite the question, there is no answer. You should also train your mind to think beyond the negative self thinking and create a sense of self in your mind. Meta thinking is all about self thinking and what your mind thinks of you after careful self observation. People, who indulge in negative self thinking, often cannot express themselves emotionally or via their thoughts to others.

Allowing the negative thoughts to exist while rejecting them as a part of which is a part of how over thinkers can curb their mind from going awry. Researchers in the Journal Behavior Therapy found that the mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helped people to feel more self compassion rather than negative emotions while on an over thinking mode. This MBCT therapy enabled lower stress levels in thoughts of most others suffering from a heightened sense of anxiety. 

You need to fight hard and gain control of your life. If you want to take control of a situation, you need to find a concrete action that can help you get some sense of control in your life. You need to get into a habit of noting down the things that cause the maximum worry in you. Post which, you need to stop worrying unnecessarily.

Instead of fighting that uncertainty, learn to embrace it. The bottom line is you can’t control everything and the universe operates on change. Major depressive disorder affects around 14.8 million American adults in a given year. Depression can co-occur with other illnesses and medical conditions, including cancer, eating disorders and substance abuse. Life is what you make it, and perhaps, it’s how you look at it, too. The same could be same for math puzzles–often there is more than one solution.   Of course, =when we’re young, we see the world as black and white.

And similar notions are often crammed down our throats, too, for such subjects as math and science.

But the truth is, the answer is only black and white if everyone agrees on the approach. And that doesn’t always happen.

It’s like the old elephant allegory. If a handful of people stand in a dark room with an elephant, and each describes what the elephant feels like, depending on where they stand, they will reach different conclusions. The person in front of the trunk says long, the person by the tail says thin, and the person by the side says flat and wrinkly.

So, on the topic of interpretation, how would you solve the following viral math problem?

Did you figure it out?  Which of the two solutions below did you find?

The first solution is:

1.Most agree that 1 + 4 = 5.

2. In the next line, add 2 + 5 to the sum of 5 in the equation above. That gives you the answer of 12.

3. Next,  apply the same formula:  3 + 6 = 9, then add the 9 to the sum in the equation above (12) to get the total of 21.

4. The last step is to  take the 8 + 11 in the last equation, which equals 19, and add it to the sum of the previous problem (21). This gives you a total of 40.

However, there is a popular second solution:

1. The obvious truth is:  1 + 4 = 5. But you could also reach 5 by adding 1 to 4 times 1.

2. In the same fashion, with the second line, 2 + 2(5) = 12.

3. And the next line:  3 + 3(6) = 21.

4. Using this method to solve the problem,  add 8 to 8 times 11 to get 96.
